Relax in this charming timber cottage with its old- world ambience. Set in over an acre of fenced wild garden of heather and trees, on its own and beside a quiet minor road, Rowan Cottage was built by a family member who spent her working life in India.
Styled on the hill bungalows in Kashmir, Rowan Cottage has a lovely tranquil atmosphere and is situated at the head of the Pass of Inverfarigaig, 650' above, and one and a half miles from the southern shores of Loch Ness.

Experienced hill walkers can scramble up the side of 500' Dun Dearduil - with a vitrified Iron Age hill fort at the top. The less experienced (or energetic!) can take a stroll up what our visitors call the "secret" road nearby (known locally as "the corkscrew") for fabulous views over Loch Ness. There are many small lochs for trout fishing.
We are centrally situated for touring and there are lots of interesting historical sites and castles to visit. Walkers will find a network of local paths, and there are many opportunities for mountain biking.
If you are a hill walker or more serious mountaineer we are within easy reach of the Cairngorms, Lochaber, Glen Affric and Ben Wyvis.

The scenery is stunning - in the spring the banks of the "Pass" are studded with thousands of primroses, followed by broom and gorse. Through the summer the colours change with the purple of foxgloves and heather followed by the spectacular shades of autumn, accompanied by stags roaring in the hills. Winter can bring snowy days - but also rain, so we provide plenty of books and games, so you can just curl up and relax…
Dogs welcome!
We welcome up to 2 dogs free of charge. Forest walks are available 50 metres down the road, which link into a network of paths at Inverfarigaig - ideal for dog lovers!

Rowan Cottage is owned and managed by Alex and Janet Sutherland.
